Personal History
The first years of my life were spent figuring out what the world
expected of me and trying to deliver it. This included excelling in left-brain
(logical, rational) activities. I earned a Bachelor of Commerce and went on to become a Chartered Accountant.
My body, particularly my back, began to complain in my
early twenties. In addition, I was
prone to depression and seemed overly sensitive to how other people were
feeling.
The continuing pain, both physical and emotional, led me on a search through bookstores and courses.
I read extensively on spiritual practices, psychology and aspects of the human potential movement.
I took seminars in personal growth, shamanism, crystal healing, bodywork, past life regressions, guided imagery, aromatherapy,
and yoga. I went to a psychologist and had many treatments with
various bodyworkers. I began to
realize that everything in my life affected everything else. My physical pain was related to my emotional pain.
In 1992, I decided to sell my business and commit to
finding my purpose in life. Within
two weeks of doing so, I heard about a meditation class and enrolled.
Meditation accelerated my inner exploration. It provided that longed-for connection with an aspect of me that
"knew", "accepted" and "forgave". I started taking responsibility for the way I experienced life.
I followed my desires, regardless of whether they "made
sense". I began to consider
the possibility that I could actually work in the field of alternative
healing. I realized that my
life had been preparing me for this work. My sensitivity now became an asset.
Today, I marvel at my life. Each aspect of it reflects my interests and passions.
On a daily basis, I get to interact with people who are engaged in
their own search, their own unique path. I have the opportunity to inspire and be inspired, teach and learn.
